 Amazing EnergyThough times change and unexpected events cause us to think or rethink our plans and goals, Dominican University has always had an uncommon energy—illustrated by a confidence in the future and our ability to shape it. The pioneering spirit of the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, which resulted in the establishment of an outstanding college for women at a time when it “just wasn’t done,” has propelled us through the decades and given us the courage to move forward over and over again. Our history is in fact our future. Our mission then is our mission today. Our sense of place, our sense of accomplishment and our sense of history form the platform upon which we build an amazing future—with amazing possibilities—for Dominican University.
Committed to excellence both inside and outside the classroom, Dominican University takes seriously the process of self-assessment that leads to continuous improvement and new program design. Our strategic planning process has led us to this point in time when all who are touched by Dominican—first-time freshmen, visitors, alumnae/i, faculty members—now stand to benefit from the outcomes of this thoughtful, proactive process. In April 2002, the Board of Trustees approved our strategic plan, Launching Our Second Century, followed by a master facilities plan to support it.
Amazing FutureTo fulfill our vision for the future, Dominican University must recruit and retain talented students and faculty. And to do so effectively, we must first expand our facilities. The centerpiece of our campaign is a new academic building, Parmer Hall, which will replace the old science building and provide critically needed classroom space. Other facilities needs include a parking garage and a new early childhood education center. Our endowment, as well, must continue to expand if we are to ensure that our rich academic and religious traditions remain vibrant, that our programs continue to be at the forefront of their disciplines and that all interested students, regardless of need, will be able to afford the amazing experience that Dominican University offers.
